A Young Man's Irresponsible Drinking Results In A DUI And Time In The Local Jail

Richard had an extremely hard time keeping a job. Indeed, because of his laziness and lack of drive, he was unemployed far more frequently than he was in work. And when he did secure a job, he had an exceptionally difficult time getting to work when his shift started, he commonly received poor performance appraisals, and he called off sick so regularly that he regularly got fired a week or two after he started working.

To no one's amazement, one of the consequences of Richard's disgraceful work history was the fact that he was just about flat broke on a day-to-day basis. In spite of Richard's unacceptable employment track record and financial mismanagement, on the other hand, somehow, someway he made it a point to drink in an irresponsible manner almost everyday.

So it came as no big surprise when Richard received a fourth DWI. When he went before the court, the magistrate explained to Richard that his alcohol-related behavior was irresponsible and, consequently, he was going to sentence Richard to spend twelve months in jail.

During his time behind bars, Richard was required to learn more about alcohol facts such as alcohol related effects and alcohol deaths, about the destructive consequences of careless drinking, and he was required to get alcohol rehab. The magistrate highlighted the fact that unless Richard receives professional alcohol counseling and discovers how to live a life of abstinence, he will probably be spending a considerable amount of time in the municipal jail.

Richard articulated that he grasped what the magistrate was saying but he still stated that placement in the city jail was not the most logical sentence. The judge saw things in an entirely different Manner and declared that it was his responsibility to keep alcohol dependent persons off the streets who drive under the influence and who receive one or more DUIs. To corroborate this statement, the magistrate listed some honored, highly evaluated alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics and facts that stressed some of the destructive results that are related to abusive and irresponsible drinking such as alcohol related deaths.

Although Richard realized that he drank in an excessive and irresponsible manner, he never thought that he was an alcohol addicted individual. So it was a real shocker when Richard began having chronic alcoholism symptoms and alcohol withdrawal symptoms nearly three hours after getting incarcerated.

To treat his alcohol withdrawals in a harm free manner, Richard was life flighted to a rehab facility for alcohol detoxification and then brought back to the municipal jail. While locked up in the county jail Richard got alcohol counseling but due to the fact that he received this therapy as something that was forced upon him, he failed to take ownership of his abusive and irresponsible drinking.

When his time in the city jail was finished, the magistrate without uncertainty told Richard that he would be under close surveillance and would be mandated to take periodic urine alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard neglected to take ownership of his drinking situation and how he reluctantly followed the rehab regimen while in the city jail, the magistrate knew that it was only a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his excessive drinking behavior.

As the magistrate reflected on Richard's circumstance, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never "connect the dots" and learn how to live in an accountable manner.
