A Young Male Needs Counseling For His Acute Depression, Relationship Problems, And For His Drug Addiction And Alcohol Dependency



Roughly three months ago I had lunch with a thirty-one-year-old man named Benjamin who experiences extreme depression, has relationship difficulties, and who is addicted to drugs and alcohol. As affirmed by Benjamin, it is his alcohol and drug dependency and his extreme depression that has had the most to do with his constant relationship problems.

As explained by Benjamin, he is so dejected by his relationship problems and by both of his medical issues that he in actual fact has little or no impetus to accomplish much of anything. What is especially sad about this is that earlier in his life, Benjamin completed two semesters of graduate school in Spanish history.

Benjamin's circumstance makes me question if he is an illustration of an individual who can look in the mirror and perceive his drug abuse and drinking problems and do something positive about these issues. Or, on the other hand, if he a person who has to hit life's bottom before he gets drug and alcohol dependency counseling that results in lasting recovery.

It may be asked how treatment would help his chemical dependency. First of all, there are quite a few recently produced physician-prescribed drugs that can help Benjamin through the alcohol and drug detoxification process, through his withdrawal symptoms, and help him avoid a drug or an alcohol relapse. Second, in treatment he could also learn more about his alcoholism symptoms and also about the various stages of alcoholism.

Third, Benjamin would learn to understand the fact that there is entirely nothing constructive about chemical dependency and abusive and unhealthy drinking. In a similar way, he would also learn that engaging in one or both of these unhealthy situations is the path to legal problems, deteriorating health, a premature death, poor work and school performance, shattered relationships, and financial difficulties. Fourth, treatment for his relationship difficulties and his depression might help him cope with these mental health issues more successfully and help create less of a need for him to engage in additive behavior. And finally, in counseling he could also learn more about the various symptoms of alcoholism that he has displayed.

Due to the fact that Benjamin doesn't have the determination to succeed at doing much of anything in his life, it is apparent that he urgently needs a little hope for a healthier life. And the sad thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Benjamin if he could only get to the place in life to get the counseling he requires for his extreme depression and alcohol dependency and drug addiction and stay with his treatment program.

Benjamin is simply too young to be defeated in life. He doesn't comprehend this at this time in his life but if he can learn how to stay away from drugs and alcohol through alcohol and drug therapy and get the treatment he needs for his severe depression, he can redirect his life and begin living with direction, passion, and with self-respect.

Stronger relationships, positive change, self esteem, and a wonderful life are clearly a reality for Benjamin. But only if he can get motivated to get the medical rehabilitation he needs, follow through with his therapy protocol, live his life in a sober and healthy manner, and learn how to acquire a more positive attitude about life.
