A Friday Evening Out With College Pals At A Local College Nightclub Leads To Irresponsible Drinking And Symptoms Of Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as a person who studied much of the time and who rarely, if ever, "painted the town red" by drinking with her peers. She seemed driven to excel academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only liked but one that also gave her some monetary security.

After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a nationally ranked program in linguistics. Her rationale underlying this decision was that this area of study would be a good foundation for law school and would not be identical to the majority of law school applicants who major in political science at the undergraduate level.

Lois was the kind of person who worked hard to finish what she was doing and then would take a couple of days off when she could. As is the case, nevertheless, the vast majority of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations did not have much to do with drinking. Needless to say, Lois was anything but a party-girl. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were over and being delighted with the fact that she had done a super job on her finals, however, she wanted to let her hair down and do something enjoyable.

So Lois and some of her friends went to a local nightclub where they had a few beers. As the evening progressed, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. In point of fact, she was having such a fabulous time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around two hours when Lois started to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then fall unconscious, nevertheless, her friends instantly realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911, the emergency services number, and ask for medical assistance because they thought that Lois was exhibiting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was very aware that she had narrowly escaped death due to an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was gratified to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat disheartened knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her parents knew how relentlessly she studied at school and how little she permitted herself to socialize with her classmates. Nonetheless, they also knew that Lois needed to keep away from excessive and hazardous drinking.

As a result, they suggested that in the future, whenever a drinking situation develops, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois was of the same opinion and swore to her parents and to her friends that she would never ever drink in an irresponsible manner. In her own words, "I never had a clue that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now understand that careless and irresponsible drinking is not my style. I guarantee that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also had. In other words, she immediately understood that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would not make the same error in judgment again. In fact, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this form of irresponsible drinking can end in death.
